This is going to be quite a lengthy article, but there is a quick amendment to the formatting before we get into things.
Last time, we discussed results of all of the academy teams, but I realized in the making of this update that if the Under 13 and 14 results were included, it would make the article a bit cluttered and large, so instead, we’re going to keep this one strictly to the Under 15 and Under 17 teams.
The U-13s and U-14s aren’t forgotten by Soundwave Soccer, however, and those results will simply be coming in a separate article after the Generation Adidas Cup wraps up. In addition, a full Generation Adidas Cup wrap-up will be coming as soon as both teams finish their time in Bradenton, Florida.
With all qualifiers and clarifications out of the way, here’s your full recap on U-15 and U-17 results from February and March.
Under 15s
Record: 2 wins, 3 draws, 2 losses; 6 goals for, 6 conceded
The Under 15 team had a bit of a rocky period in their run-in to the Generation Adidas Cup, having scored a goal in just one of their previous four games. The wins, for the U-15s, came in a 2-1 victory over Wake FC and a 2-0 victory over Kalonji Soccer Academy.
They were held to a 0-0 draw against Atlanta United with Soundwave Soccer on-hand, along with a 2-2 draw against Southern Soccer Academy, and another scoreless draw against reigning USL League One champion Tormenta FC’s academy.
The losses, while of course disappointing, did come against two very successful MLS academies. Orlando City picked up a 2-0 win over the U-15s, and New England did the same to the tune of 1-0.
Of course, their Generation Adidas Cup run is already underway, with the U-15s opening play with a 2-0 loss to Real Madrid. With LAFC and Pumas UNAM still to come at the time of writing, it’s still all to play for.
We’ll go over the schedule in the Generation Adidas Cup wrap-up, so let’s look now at the only older team.
Under-17s
Record: 3 wins, 1 draw, 3 losses; 25 goals for, 16 conceded
The Under-17s have a couple stars on their hands who have been splitting time between the academy, Huntsville and first team preseason. This perhaps is the reason there’s such an insane variety of results for the Under-17s. Speaking of which…
As far as victories go, the U-17s picked them up against Wake FC by a 4-2 scoreline, in addition to a 5-2 drubbing of Kalonji Soccer Academy and an 11-0 demolition job of Tormenta FC. That win over Tormenta included 4 goals from Adem Sipic as well.
The lone draw of the past couple months came against Southern Soccer Academy where both teams found the back of the net twice each.
The losses, once again, came against MLS academies. Atlanta picked up a 2-1 win with myself in attendance. Orlando won by a 3-0 scoreline, and New England did so by a 5-2 margin.
The U-17s are also underway at the Generation Adidas Cup, picking up a win on penalties against New England, in a revenge win of sorts. There’s another familiar opponent on deck, as the U-17s face Orlando on Monday after playing Léon on Sunday.
For those tracking his development with interest, Sipic is at the Generation Adidas Cup, and started against New England. We’ll get more into that in the wrap-up article. See you then!
